NSG America, Inc. Announces a 2.5G InGaAs Avalanche Photodiode ideal for FTTx Applications

NSG America, creator of the SELFOC® Lens and the world’s leading supplier of Gradient Index Lenses, is introducing a 2.5G InGaAs Avalanche Photodiode (APD) at this year’s OFC/NFOEC show. This new high speed APD is suitable for all optical communications applications that require extremely low dark current detection.

The NSG 2.5G APD is a front illuminated structure with an active diameter of 40 microns. The advantage of our APD chip is that it does not require any special sub-carrier or assembly. This makes the NSG 2.5G InGaAs Avalanche Photodiode ideal for FTTx applications such as GPON transceivers which require high reliability and low cost.

Another application that our APD is well suited for is Optical Time Domain Reflectometers or OTDRs. This test equipment requires a detector with low noise, low dark current and high sensitivity to locate light loss in a fiber system. NSG’s 2.5G APD has a spectral response of 1000 to 1625nm which detects very small amounts of light leakage.

This 2.5G APD is available in standard TO packaging with ball lens cap or flat window cap, as well as an APD chip-on-carrier.
